Purpose / Origin of the Information Session |
Earlier in July, the Community Board requested that staff attend an information session in August prior to the decision meeting in September. The Board has asked staff to present an iteration of an option based on the feedback received during the consultation, allowing the Community Board to provide further input. |
Confidentiality |
The workshop and any shared information are not confidential. |
Background |
The Christchurch Regeneration Acceleration Facility (CRAF) is a funding package of $30 million from the Treasury for transport projects in Christchurch. The purpose of the funding is to make a difference to affected communities by improving liveability and to support their ongoing regeneration. Previously the Waitai Coastal–Burwood-Linwood Community Board selected the following improvements on Marine Parade (Attachment B). In order of priority, these were: · Sections of Hawke Street to 187 Marine Parade – remove the existing pavement and replace with a new pavement structure to support new asphalt concrete (AC) surfacing. Assess footpath condition, and repair/replace if necessary. · 187 Marine Parade to Lonsdale Street – removing the existing pavement and replacing with a new pavement structure to support new asphalt concrete (AC) surfacing. (Currently do nothing in this section. If there is surplus funding and agreement from the project team and Community Board) · Lonsdale Street to 142 Marine Parade – replace the kerb and dish channel with kerb and flat channel. Assess footpath condition, and repair/replace if necessary. · 142 Marine Parade to Bowhill Road – a small area of new pavement near the intersection of Bowhill Road. Assess footpath condition, and repair/replace if necessary. · Investigate a cycle facility along Marine Parade Other priorities identified in community feedback which have helped inform the design options for the Marine Parade street renewal project; · Speed reduction At the 11 September 2023 briefing the Community Board requested the project to include Hawke Street intersection as part of the project scope (Attachment C). During this briefing a number of questions were asked. These were answered in a Memo in December 2023 (Attachment D) |
Key Issues |
· Loss of car parks around the parking bays · Tree removal around the beach side of Marine Parade · Timeframe to deliver the project · Project budget to construct with additional investigation work done. |
Next Steps |
· Staff to return to the Community Board with a decision report in September 2024 with a recommendation to proceed to detailed design. |
