Te whakamārama This song tells the story of Māui changing into a kererū and following his father into the underworld whereupon he returns with the kūmara. The kūmara is seen not only as food for the body but also food for the mind, thus referring to the importance of mātauranga.

Background |
The Christchurch Regeneration Acceleration Facility (CRAF) is a funding package of $40 million from the Treasury for transport projects in Christchurch. This project includes pedestrian improvements that are located close to schools and public amenities, minor cycle improvements and minor intersection improvements. Beckenham Street (St Peters School) A pedestrian safety trial has been in place on Beckenham Street in conjunction with St Peters School and was initiate by the Traffic Operations Team. This project will make this trial permanent by: · Raising the table courtesy crossing · Installing kerb buildouts · Relocating existing tactile pavers at the crossing on either side of the carriageway · Removing the existing dish channel cover in front of the pedestrian access gate · Installing new signage to notify road users of the raised crossing In addition to this work, here is also funding under another package of works in the CRAF contract to install a speed hump on Beckenham Street, at the intersection with Tennyson Street. Waltham Road and Hastings Street East (Waltham School) This project is to improve and make safer the current pedestrian crossing facilities associated with Waltham School. Works proposed are: Waltham Road • Install (100mm) raised table zebra crossing and associated road markings • Install tactile pavers at the crossing on either side of the carriageway • Install new signage to notify road users of the raised zebra crossing • Replace faded pedestrian crossing signage • Add green road markings to incoming and exiting cycle lanes
• Install speed hump by 161 Hastings Street East • Safety improvements including improving visibility for pedestrians crossing the road by restricting car parking in proximity to the crossing points, improving the footpath surface and reducing conflicts with the traffic accessing the school and preschool gate
Pre-engagement with both schools has been completed.
Key Issues |
· Opposition to the changes on Beckenham Street from local residents based on feedback received from a survey undertaken during the trial period. |

Background |
The Council adopted a Tree Policy in 2021 which outlined the process for tree removal requests from members of the public. To date, very few of these have been progressed to the Community Board and therefore the process may not be familiar with the elected members. Staff would like to present to the board to explain the process on how we receive applications and how they are then processed to proceed to the Board to make the final decision in alignment with their delegation. Staff have also recently undertaken work to gain a global consent to assist in these applications, it would be helpful to go through this with the Board members.
Key Issues |
· Tree Policy process. · Delegated authority in relation to tree removal. · Resource consenting requirements |
