The Summit Road (Canterbury) Protection Act 2001 is the statutory basis of the Summity Road Protection Authority and its Advisory Committee, and states that the Summit Road Protection Authority is a Joint Committee of:

7.   575 Summit Road - Application for Dwelling extensions and alterations

 

Committee Resolved SRAC/2025/00005

That the Summit Road Protection Authority Advisory Committee recommends to the Summit Road Protection Authority to:

1.         Receive the information in the 575 Summit Road - Application for Dwelling extensions and alterations Report.

2.         Pursuant to section 17 of the Summit Road (Canterbury) Protection Act 2001, does not require (i.e. waives) notification or approval of the application at 575 Summit Road in respect of the dwelling extensions and alterations as any effects on the amenities are no more than minor.

8.   Draft Annual Plan Submission to Christchurch City Council and Selwyn District Council

 

Advisory Committee Comment

The Advisory Committee received oral staff advice that under the Summit Road (Canterbury) Protection Authority Act purpose and function it is not intended for the Authority to make a submission to the Councils’ Long Term and Annual Plans.  Individual members were able to submit in their personal capacity.  Written advice will be forwarded to the Advisory Committee and Authority.

9.   Members’ Information Exchange

Part B

Committee members exchanged the following information:

·         Some members of the Committee attended the recent unveiling of the Fire Sensor cameras.  It was noted that there are three more to be installed.

·         The Committee discussed implementing access to reserves near Gebbie’s Pass, and the capability of firefighting.

10. Head Ranger’s Update
Paul Delvin, Christchurch City Council Manager Regional Parks,  advised the Committee on

·         The recent installation of 30,000ltr water tank and the proposal to install further water tanks to assist with firefighting.

·         The Committee were updated about the progress of the Port Hills Vision which is a non-statutory concept document.

·         Two new carparks are proposed for the Rapaki Saddle area and on Living Springs land close to the Summit Road.

11. Summit Road Safety Update

Andrew Hensley, Christchurch City Council Traffic Engineer, updated the Committee on the Heavy Vehicle usage on Summit Road.
