Purpose / Origin of Seminar

This is a staff initiative.  The purpose is to propose a different approach to building more of our citizen’s voice into earlier stages of policy and strategy development.

Background

·    The Strategic Policy Unit (in partnership with Community Support, Governance & Partnerships) are proposing a pilot project for 2017/18.

·    As a pilot the proposal is to use only the Strategic Policy Units work programme in the first instance but will review progress over the year. If the pilot is successful, consider expanding to wider policy and strategy development.

Key Issues

·    At the seminar staff will ask Board members:

which Strategic Policy Unit projects they consider to be priority or important projects for their Board area and

how much and when they would want to be involved in the development process.

·    The intent is for Boards to have earlier or ongoing input to the projects that matter to them and each Boards desired level of involvement can be built into project planning, to ensure the right level of staff resourcing is available.

Next Steps

·    If the Board does have priority projects staff will build resourcing in to their project plans for 2017/18

·    Staff will implement this approach and report back in 12 months.

Purpose/Origin of Seminar

Staff initiated to commence a process to review Council owned property that is no longer being used for the purpose it was originally acquired for.

Background

The Property Consultancy Manager discussed with the former Community Boards and the Community Governance Team about the Property Review Process.

Staff are looking to commence that process with a formal report to each of the Community Boards in the next month or two and thought before staff do that it would be a good idea to have a quick presentation and chat with each Community Board, as some of the members will be new, to recap the process and bring members up to speed on what happened last year and the next steps.

Key Issues

Next Steps
