11. Proposed Community Water Partnership

 

A Power Point presentation was provided by Clive Appleton about a proposed Community Water Partnership that includes two of the Christchurch City Councils proposed strategic priorities:  Safe and sustainable water supply and improved waterways; and Enabling active citizenship and connected communities.

 

Councillor Cotter arrived at 6.28pm.

8.   Immediate Steps Biodiversity Funding

 

A Power Point was given by Ashleigh Watts about the proposed fencing, planting and locations for work to be carried on the Port Hills fire/Cashmere Stream restoration project.  Ashleigh responded to questions of clarification about the project.

 

Lance Kenyon outlined the funding options that the working group had considered in the process.

1.              Agree to fund $100,000 as requested for the Port Hills Fire/Cashmere Stream Restoration Project.  This funding is for fencing and planting.

9.   Zone Team Quarterly Report

 

Steve Firth and Nick Moody provided the Zone Committee with an overview of the Zone Team’s quarterly report for the period 1 July to 30 September 2017.  Steve advised this was an opportunity for the Zone Committee to continue to reflect on how they have added value and identify how to add value over the next quarter, and he asked for any feedback about the report.  Staff will work on the language of future reports.  A Power Point was given by Nick Moody.

10. Working Groups Updates - 23 November 2017

 

Urban Contaminant Working Group – Andrew Congalton reported on a symposium he, Nick Moody, Tom Lambie and Suzanne Furkert attended at Lincoln University where students presented information on concepts around point source contaminant treatment, such as filters on downpipes to help treat zinc leaching from roofs.

 

Cashmere Catchment Working Group – Arapata Reuben advised that the group would be meeting on 6 December 2017.

 

Groundwater/Drylands Working Group – Chris Kelliher advised that the Waimakariri Wells Project is due to be finished in December 2017.

 

Communication and Engagement Working Group – Arapata Reuben spoke about his presentation to CCC and Chairs article.

 

Biodiversity and Immediate Steps Funding Working Group – Lance Kenyon advised that the group’s focus at this time was on applications and the ZIP review for biodiversity.

 

Regional Committee – Lesley Woudberg advised that a draft of regional initiatives was being worked on.

 

Liaison with Community Groups – Suzanne Furkert advised that Ōpawaho Heathcote River Network has recently become an Incorporated Society.

7.   Avon-Ōtākaro Catchments - Actions to Improve recreation in the Lower Avon-Ōtākaro River

 

A Power Point presentation was provided by Tim Joyce showing the location and use of litter booms on the Ōtākaro/Avon and Ōpawaho/Heathcote Rivers.  He also updated the Committee on progress for control of flag iris and aquatic weed.

 

Discussion was held about the matter of public toilets available at the Mahinga Kai Exemplar and Kerrs Reach sites.

 

Debra Hasson arrived at 7.50pm.

Shelley Washington outlined the upcoming events.  She thanked members for the comments they had forwarded regarding the Annual Report and advised she would provide members with a draft of the document.
